Learning opportunities are provided as part of the YorkInfo Partnership. In-person courses to enhance data and analytics skills and relevant webinars will be posted on this page.

Course Descriptions

In 2020, the Region will be providing two GIS courses that will be tailored specifically to the needs of the Partnership. Class size is limited to 14 people. Please send only those staff that will receive the maximum benefit from this training and can become champions for GIS within your organization.

Getting Started with GIS (Level 1)

Getting Started with GIS (Level 1) is designed to teach the basics of the ArcMAP and ArcCatalog within the ArcGIS Desktop Environment.
After completion of this course, you will be able to:
  • Access, Input, Save, Export, and Manage GIS data using ArcCatalog
  • Create a GIS Map • Customizing your GIS data (symbology)
  • Use dynamic labeling for features and annotation

Dive Deeper with GIS (Level 2)

Dive Deeper with GIS (Level 2) dives deeper into ArcGIS processes and functionality.
After completion of this course, you will be able to:
  • Create GIS Layer from X,Y field data and excel spreadsheets
  • Create, edit and manage GIS data
  • Geoprocessing, georeferencing, Joins and Relates and more

Geospatial Training

Access Geospatial Training to help you get started or upgrade your skills with GIS. York Region employees and Partners can access online courses in:
